I am passionate about photographing influential people and people in love. Above all, I value instilling confidence in my clients and creating images that are as full of energy as the event itself.
My favorite things? Breakfast tacos, wine, planes, and trains!
My coverage for for presidential candidate, Julián Castro, continued through the Houston Democratic Debates, held at Texas Southern University.
TSU was filled with excited supporters for the various candidates.
Shortly after, it was time for Secretary Castro to do his walkthrough. You may be seeing double in some of the photos– his twin brother Congressman Joaquín Castro was there to show support.
Some interesting things I remember seeing is the mini fan and water available to the candidates behind each podium. During the walk through, they also visually measure the height of the candidate to the podium and add a box to close gaps between candidates’ heights. The last photo is of him shaking hands with an event professional who helped make the event happen – something he always took time to do.
After a bit of a break, it was time to head to the debate. Erica and Rosie Castro, Julián’s wife and mother respectively, greeted supporters.
I didn’t photograph the actual debates. It’s quite hectic, movement is restricted, and the area is packed with media.
The Texas Democratic Party had a watch party which became a larger event post-debate, as candidates spoke to supporters. In the green room, presidential candidate and Senator Cory Booker arrived soon after us, allowing for some great photos of the two candidates.
It’s been such an honor to photograph for Secretary Castro, and I hope you enjoyed these photos of his historic run for president.
