Engagement Sessions

Do you feel like a lot of people got engaged this holiday season? I know my feed fills up with excitement during this time of year! The holiday season (Thanksgiving through Valentine’s day) is prime engagement time! We all saw those funny/cheesy articles about engagement sessions a few months back and despite the silliness, these made me realize how important engagement photos are!! Yes, these sessions are a fairly new concept to the wedding world because our parents or friends who got married a decade ago didn’t have them, but here’s my take on why they’re important:

• Let’s face it! At some point or another, we’ve all been super awkward in front of the camera! Engagement sessions are a great time for couples to get those awkward moments out and get comfortable being photographed before your wedding day! It’s OK if you don’t know how to pose because this is the moment where you’ll find out what is most comfortable for you! I’ve had couples who were shy during their engagement sessions and by the wedding day, were rocking their poses and it made for even more genuine photos!

• Lots of couples use their engagement photos for save the dates! This is a great way to add personality to your announcements! Also, couples use them on their wedding day! Some in center pieces, others framed with a border for signatures and well wishes, or as part of a guest book! There are endless ways to use engagement photos!

• It is so important for couples to get to know their photographer! Couples spend a lot of time on their big day with their photographer which means they will be present in those tender moments full of emotions. As a couple, trusting your photographer is imperative! Engagement sessions give you a sense of what that photographer is going to be like during the big day!

If you’re recently engaged, remember, the wedding industry runs a year ahead. Meaning, vendors are already booking for late 2016/early 2017!!! So be sure to reach out to all of your vendors early!
