Cooper’s Bar Mitzvah was one for the books! He was called to the Torah at Washington Hebrew Congregation and celebrated at SPIN in DC.
I have been waiting for Cooper’s big day since his sister Chloe‘s back in 2020! We started the day with family portraits at WHC where we photographed him alone, with parents and sibling, and grandparents. Because WHC allows photography during the services, the family was fortunate enough to have it captured! Following the service, the party kicked off at SPIN DC! The best part was that his theme was Eagles which was perfect since they had JUST won the superbowl! Take a look at my favorite photos from Cooper’s Bar Mitzvah!

Q&A:
When should we take Bimah Portraits?
Because most synagogues do not allow photography during the service, we take photos during the rehearsal time or at another time that works with the synagogue and your family. This time allows us to get all the “must have” photos like the mitzvah with the torah, detail photos of family heirlooms, and a variety of family groupings.
What if we have out of town family who we’d like to include in photos?
Often times, before the celebration, families choose to take extended family portraits so that family who have traveled from out of town to be formally photographed (like aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.). Sometimes this is right before the service or right before the celebration at the celebration location. Other times, it’s the Friday before services.
How much coverage time do we need for the celebration?
This is the part kids have been waiting for! During the celebration, I focus on photographing details, candids, and all the activities that happen during the celebration. This includes speeches, blessings, candle lighting ceremony, and the hora. I recommend the full party (typically about 4 hours).
